Description:
This car is my interpretation of a ZX2 S/R built on a 2002 ZX2. The ZX2 S/R was a limited edition tuner ZX2 optimized for showroom stock racing that was available in the 1999 and 2000 model years.
The engine has a Roush/ZXTuner intake with K&N air filter and an MSD coil pack and plug wires.
The exhaust side of the engine was a Pacesetter ceramic coated shorty header though this cracked just after the sweet part (1 year) of the 3 year \"pro rated\" warranty, the manufacturer wanted 3/4 of the price of a new header to replace it. I\'m still mulling over their lame offer.
Now, the cast iron manifold is back on, hooked to the catalyst then a 2.25-in. stainless steel free flow exhaust system and Borla rear muffler.
The suspension has Eibach higher rate springs (1-in. lower), Ford Racing Tokico struts on the front, Bilstein Sport rear struts and a 22-mm rear sway bar. Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings are used on the front control arms, rear trailing arms, front and rear sway bar mounts and end links, and the steering rack.
All those suspension parts do make a difference so I installed Corbeau TRS seats, these are very comfortable for all driving modes. I also have custom leather e-brake and shifter covers, these were made by a friend who is very good with leather and a sewing machine.
The car has rear disc brake setup from the earlier generation Escort GT (same as S/R) with Hawk HPS pads both front and rear. The car has lightweight 17x7 alloy wheels and 215/45/17 tires. A recent addition is a TPMS system with real-time pressure and temperature display. The spare tire well also contains a matching 17 inch wheel and tire.
The aerodynamic aids are pretty much all Ford, the rear wing is from a Cougar and the front air-dam is a modified F-150 item. I made the fascia-to-radiator seal. The only significant aspect which this car differs from a factory ZX2 S/R is that it\'s an automatic rather than a 5-speed. It was a used car so I didn\'t really have that choice.
